Increase in loans granted by Lithuania’s credit institutions to Lithuanian residents

Today, the Bank of Lithuania published the MFI balance sheet for May 2019, which shows that loans granted by credit institutions to Lithuanian residents increased by €214.5 million over the month. Loans to Lithuania’s non-financial corporations, households and financial sector grew by €158.8 million, €48.1 million and €9.3 million respectively, while loans to general government reduced by €1.7 million. Loans for house purchase and consumption granted by credit institutions to Lithuanian households increased by €54.1 million and €1.9 million respectively, while loans for other purposes decreased by €7.9 million. Deposits of Lithuanian residents with credit institutions decreased by €223.0 million over the month. Financial sector, general government and non-financial corporation deposits reduced by €260.6 million, €82.6 million and €16.8 million respectively, while household deposits increased by €137.0 million. Overnight deposits of Lithuania’s non-financial corporations with credit institutions decreased by €26.0 million, while those of households increased by €133.4 million over the month.
