Increase in loans granted by Lithuania’s credit institutions to Lithuanian residents

Today, the Bank of Lithuania published the monetary financial institutions (MFI) balance sheet for March 2018, which shows that loans granted by credit institutions to Lithuanian residents increased by €25.2 million over the month. Loans to Lithuania’s households and the financial sector grew by €37.1 million and €31.9 million respectively, while loans to general government and non-financial corporations contracted by €22.2 million and €21.6 million respectively. Loans for house purchase and consumption granted by credit institutions to Lithuanian households increased by €35.7 million and €4.3 million respectively, while loans for other purposes reduced by €2.9 million. Deposits of Lithuanian residents with credit institutions decreased by €13.4 million over the month. Deposits of non-financial corporations and households, as well as general government deposits shrank by €24.6 million and €19.0 million respectively, while financial sector deposits rose by €30.1 million. Overnight deposits of Lithuanian non-financial corporations with credit institutions contracted by €153.1 million, while those of households grew by €105.1 million over the month.
