At the end of December 2006, official reserve assets made up LTL 15.2 billion (EUR 4.4 billion, USD 5.8 billion). In the course of one month they increased by LTL 1.1 billion, i.e. 8 per cent.
The growth of official reserve assets was affected by the increase of currency in circulation and higher central government deposits with the Bank of Lithuania of LTL 532.1 million and LTL 434.4 million, respectively, in addition to higher external liabilities of the Bank of Lithuania and deposits of other monetary financial institution with the Bank of Lithuania, which went up by LTL 174.6 million and LTL 8.8 million, respectively. A factor reducing reserve assets was the contraction of other factors of LTL 30.2 million.
In 2006 official reserve assets went up by LTL 4.1 billion, i.e. 36.7 per cent. The growth of official reserve assets was driven by the increase of central government deposits with the Bank of Lithuania and currency in circulation, respectively by LTL 2.0 billion and LTL 1.3 billion. Reserve assets were also pushed up by higher deposits of other monetary financial institutions with the Bank of Lithuania and Bank of Lithuania external liabilities of LTL 381.5 million and LTL 208.5 million, respectively, in addition to other factors which went up by LTL 118.8 million.
