Today Vilnius artists, bankers and the media were shown for the first time a new documentary by the director Rimtautas Silinis From the History of the Litas. Coins contracted by the Bank of Lithuania.
The new film presents the history of Lithuanian coins from the ancient times to the restoration of the state of Lithuania in the 20th century.Against the background of changing epochs, the viewers can see subtle heraldic and minting technology details little known to the general public.
“After the adoption of the euro our currency will become history.We will only know that there was such a currency at some point.It will stay in museums and private collections and will continue to be part of our history.We wished to make this history more colourful and therefore initiated the creation of this documentary to perpetuate the history of the litas,” said Reinoldijus Sarkinas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.
The visual narrative about Lithuanian coins contains ample selected archival and iconographic material and unique details of coin production from the state enterprise Lithuanian Mint in Vilnius.
The first film made on the initiative of the Bank of Lithuania was From the History of the Litas. Banknotes released in 2002. It reflected the general history of the national currency and presented the development of Lithuanian banknotes in more detail. Documentary material was made more vivid by the witnesses and comments of politicians, historians and artists.
