The Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, Vitas Vasiliauskas discussed Lithuania's possibilities to achieve the ambitious goal — adoption of  the euro in 2015 — with Olli Rehn, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for the economic and monetary policy of the European Union, who is on a visit in Vilnius.

The head of the Bank of Lithuania, having presented to the Vice-President the preparations for the adoption of the euro, noted that the economic prospects are increasing the possibilities to meet the inflation criterion, while the discipline of public finances is becoming the major challenge.

“An intensive phase of the preparations for the adoption of the euro begins; it is, therefore, necessary to concentrate on constructive work in order to adopt the euro as scheduled,” says V. Vasiliauskas.

During the meeting, O. Rehn noted the country's achievements in overcoming the crisis and urged to continue responsible policy to ensure sustainable convergence.
