On December 9, a six-member delegation of the European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs visited the Bank of Lithuania.

“The key topic of the discussion with the Members of European Parliament that lasted over an hour was preparation for the introduction of the euro in Lithuania. The visitors had many questions to which they received comprehensive answers. They were interested in the organisation of the euro public information campaign and the things to be done for a smooth changeover. We also discussed banking supervision and related matters,” commented Reinoldijus Sarkinas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, after the meeting.

Ms Pervanche Berčs, Chair of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs of the European Parliament who headed the delegation said she learned during the visit that Lithuania was in a better position concerning the preparation for the changeover than she had thought before.

The MEP stressed the importance of the euro public information campaign making sure people understand that the changeover to the single currency of the European Union is in their favour.
