Bank of Lithuania
2005-04-05

The future adoption of the euro in Lithuania was discussed at the meeting of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, where Mr Darius Petrauskas, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, made a presentation.

Bronislovas Lubys, President of the Confederation, said that the Confederation supported the adoption of the euro in the country in early 2007 and the Bank of Lithuania actions in this field. He also read the statement of the Confederation and other business organisations calling not to link tax reforms with the adoption of the euro as this discredited the single currency of the European Union.

Mr Petrauskas reviewed the legal and economic framework for the adoption of the euro in Lithuania and pointed out the benefits of the single currency.
