Bank of Lithuania
2005-04-06

At a meeting held at the Bank of Lithuania on 6 April the key aspects of the preparation for the adoption of the euro were discussed with the senior management of commercial banks and foreign bank branches operating in the country.

Reinoldijus Sarkinas, Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, spoke about the organisational and technical work carried out by the central bank in the run up to the euro and presented the draft law on the adoption of the single currency.

Mr Sarkinas noted that commercial banks were viewed as important partners of the central bank during the cash changeover, and this large-scale logistical operation required adequate preparation.
