Balance of Payments of the Republic of Lithuania for Q2 2018

Today, the Bank of Lithuania released the balance of payments data for Q2 2018. They show that the deficit on the current account balance stood at €125.4 million, or 1.1% of GDP. The deficit was due to the negative balances of goods and primary income, which were not offset by the balances of services and secondary income in surplus. The positive net financial account investment flow amounted to €233.5 million, or 2.1% of GDP. Gross debt stood at €35.3 billion, or 81.6% of GDP, net debt – at €8.4 billion, or 19.3% of GDP in this period.

It should be noted that, when calculating the balance of payments data for Q2 2018, quarterly and monthly balance of payments data and international investment position data from Q1 2015 to Q1 2018 were revised. The current account (primary and secondary income as well as insurance services) and the financial account (portfolio, direct and other investment assets and liabilities) were subject to the major revision.
