Balance of Payments of the Republic of Lithuania for Q4 2017
Today, the Bank of Lithuania released the balance of payments data for Q4 2017. They show that the current account balance was in surplus, at €646.8 million, equating to 5.9% of GDP; the build-up of the surplus was due to a sharp decline in the negative primary income and trade balances as well as the widening secondary income and services balance surpluses. In Q4 2016, the CAB surplus amounted to €110.7 million or 1.1% of GDP. The financial account net investment flow, as well as a year earlier, was positive, at €1.2 billion, or 11.1% of GDP; in Q4 2016 – €764.7 million, or 7.6% of GDP. Lithuania's gross external debt stood at €34.8 billion, or 83.2% of GDP, while net debt – €8.2 billion or 19.5% of GDP at the end of Q4.
It should be noted that, when calculating the balance of payments data for Q4 2017, the data for Q1–Q3 2017 was revised.
