Conversation about the role of the Bank of Lithuania in ensuring the country’s economic and financial stability at the President’s Office
Today, President Dalia Grybauskaitė received the new Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania Vitas Vasiliauskas and the candidate to the position of the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania Raimondas Kuodis, Director of the Economics Department of the Bank.
As stated in the press release of the President’s press office, the main task for the new central bank management, according to the President, is to help ensure stability of the domestic economy, secure the interests of the country’s residents and protect the domestic financial system from potential crises in the future.
“For the country that is recovering after the recession, responsible monetary policy and strict supervision of the financial system are especially important. The Bank of Lithuania must become a real guarantor of the country’s financial stability and sustainable economic growth that ensures the public confidence in the state”, emphasised the President.
According to the head of the state, the Bank of Lithuania should also become a strong expert institution that analyses the economic developments of the country and helps the Government to take timely decisions ensuring economic stability and sustainability of the public finances.
