At the end of September 2005 broad money M2 made up LTL 25.7 billion. Over one month it increased by LTL 116.7 million, i.e. 0.5 per cent.
Money M1 grew in one month by LTL 62.2 million (0.4%) and amounted to LTL 14.1 billion at the end of the month. With regard to M1 components, currency in circulation grew by LTL 49.2 million, and litas demand deposits increased by LTL 13.0 million. Litas demand deposits of natural persons increased by LTL 88.5 million over a month, while those of nonfinancial undertakings and other institutions decreased by, respectively, LTL 6.3 million and LTL 69.3 million.
Quasi-money grew by LTL 54.5 million (0.5%) in September to LTL 11.6 billion at the end of the month. Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 64.9 million over a month, of which such deposits of natural persons increased by LTL 57.9 million and of on-financial undertakings shrank by LTL 42.2 million. Foreign currency deposits declined by LTL 10.3 million, of which foreign currency deposits of natural persons rose by LTL 47.6 million and those of nonfinancial undertakings went down by LTL 66.4 million.
The main M2 counterparts ? net foreign assets and domestic credit - developed in the opposite directions. Net foreign assets decreased by LTL 228.6 million (3.3%) and domestic credit grew by LTL 480.2 million (2.1%). Net claims on the central government and compulsory social and health insurance funds declined in September by LTL 4.3 million, while claims on non-banking financial institutions rose by LTL 17.0 million. Claims on the private sector increased by LTL 931.8 million. Among the latter, the highest increase in September was recorded in respect of the claims on private nonfinancial undertakings and natural persons, which went up by LTL 464.2 and LTL 468.4 million respectively.
