At the end of September 2004 broad money M2 made up LTL 19.6 billion. In the course of one month it increased by LTL 83.6 million, i.e. by 0.4 per cent.
Money M1 decreased in one month by LTL 44.7 million (0.4%) to LTL 11.1 billion at the end of September. With respect to M1 components, currency in circulation grew by LTL 24.7 million, while demand deposits in litas declined by LTL 69.5 million, of which deposits of non-financial undertakings decreased by LTL 70.3 million.
Quasi-money grew by LTL 128.3 million (1.5%) in September to LTL 8.5 billion at the end of the month. Litas time and savings deposits decreased by LTL 98.4 million in one month, of which deposits of non-financial undertakings went down by LTL 190.7 million and deposits of natural persons and other institutions grew by LTL 51.0 million and LTL 41.2 million, respectively. The second component of quasi-money - foreign currency deposits - increased by LTL 226.7 million, which was determined by the growth of deposits of non-financial undertakings of LTL 223.0 million.
Changes in the main M2 counterparts - net foreign assets and domestic credit - went in opposing directions in September. Net foreign assets decreased by LTL 277.2 million (4.0%) to LTL 6.7 billion. Domestic credit grew by LTL 459.2 million (2.9%) to make up LTL 16.3 billion at the end of September. Credit to the private sector saw significant growth in September reaching LTL 486.0 million, of credit to non-financial undertakings increased by LTL 291.6 million and credit to natural persons went up by LTL 189.8 million. Net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds declined over one month by LTL 42.4 million.
