At the end of September 2002 broad money M2 made up LTL 14.0 billion.Over one month it increased by LTL 333.9 million, of which currency in circulation went up by LTL 29.9 million, demand deposits increased by LTL 82.9 million, foreign currency deposits by LTL 160.5 million and time and savings deposits by LTL 60.5 million.
Net foreign assets increased in September by LTL 272.7 million, of which foreign assets and foreign liabilities went up by LTL 298.1 million and LTL 25.4 million, respectively.The growth of net foreign assets was determined by the investment abroad of increased deposit balances of private businesses and individuals in foreign currencies by commercial banks.
Domestic credit increased by LTL 118.8 million, of which net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds declined by LTL 125.5 million.Claims on the private sector increased by LTL 166.9 million, of which commercial bank loans to businesses and physical persons went up by LTL 107.4 million and LTL 64.9 million, respectively.
