At the end of May 2004 broad money M2 made up LTL 18.2 billion. In the course of one month it increased by LTL 120.9 million, i.e. by 0.7 per cent.
Currency in circulation increased by LTL 17.6 million (0.4%). Demand deposits increased by LTL 140.3 million (2.4%), of which deposits of non-financial undertakings declined by LTL 2.6 million, and demand deposits of natural persons and other institutions went up by LTL 28.5 million and LTL 114.4 million, respectively.
Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 30.0 million (0.7%). Such deposits of non-financial undertakings went down by LTL 4.5 million and deposits of natural persons grew by LTL 42.6 million. Deposits in foreign currencies decreased by LTL 67.1 million (1.8%), of which deposits of non-financial undertakings went up by LTL 13.6 million and deposits of natural persons declined by LTL 64.1 million.
Net foreign assets decreased in May by LTL 130.2 million (1.9%), of which foreign assets and foreign liabilities went up by LTL 248.0 million (1.9%) and LTL 378.2 million (6.2%), respectively.
Domestic credit increased by LTL 350.2 million (2.5%), of which net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds declined by LTL 56.9 million (5.4%). Claims on the private sector and non-banking financial institutions increased by LTL 308.7 million (2.4%) and LTL 111.2 million (7.5%), respectively.
