At the end of March 2005 broad money M2 made up LTL 23.1 billion. In the course of one month it increased by LTL 925.5 million, i.e. 4.2 per cent.
Money M1 grew in one month by LTL 285.7 million to LTL 12.7 billion at the end of the month. M1 components - currency in circulation and demand deposits in litas - grew by LTL 57.5 million and LTL 228.2 million, respectively. Such deposits of natural persons went up by LTL 168.6 million and non-financial undertakings by LTL 86.3 million.
Quasi-money grew by LTL 639.8 million in March to LTL 10.4 billion at the end of the month. Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 198.1 million, of which deposits of natural persons and non-financial undertakings went up by LTL 92.2 million and LTL 92.8 million, respectively. Deposits in foreign currencies went up by LTL 441.7 million, of which deposits of non-financial undertakings increased by LTL 400.6 million.
The main M2 counterparts - net foreign assets and domestic credit - went up in March as well. Net foreign assets increased by LTL 331.5 billion, of which net foreign assets of commercial banks grew by LTL 229.7 billion, and of the Bank of Lithuania by LTL 101.9 million. Domestic credit increased by LTL 530.2 million over the month. Claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds declined by LTL 1.5 million, and credit to other residents grew by LTL 531.7 million, of which claims on non-financial undertakings and natural persons increased respectively by LTL 211.4 million and LTL 304.7 million.
