At the end of December 2003 broad money M2 made up LTL 17.5 billion. In the course of one month it increased by LTL 690.8 million (4.1%).

Currency in circulation expanded by LTL 232.6 million (5.3%), in December. Demand deposits in litas increased by LTL 333.4 million (6%), of which deposits of non-financial private companies and natural persons went up by LTL 148.6 million and LTL 355.1 million (6.7% and 13.9%), respectively, and such deposits of local government institutions, non-financial public companies and non-profit organisations went down respectively by LTL 123.2 million, LTL 22.7 million and LTL 22.6 million (47.5%, 9.1 and 12.5%).

Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 225.4 million (6.7%), of which deposits of non-financial private companies and natural persons went up by LTL 109.0 million and LTL 111.7 million (26.2% and 4.2%), respectively. Deposits in foreign currencies decreased by LTL 100.6 million (2.9%), of which deposits of non-financial private companies, natural persons and non-banking financial institutions went down by LTL 11.7 million, LTL 77.9 million and LTL 11.0 million (1.0%, 3.5% and 38.3%), respectively.

Net foreign assets increased in December by LTL 269.1 million (4.2%), of which foreign assets and foreign liabilities went up by LTL 681.7 million and LTL 412.6 million (6.0% and 8.4%), respectively.

Domestic credit increased by LTL 1.1 billion (8.7%), of which net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds went up by LTL 112.3 million (35.1%). Claims on the private sector increased by LTL 1.0 billion (9.6%), of which loans to businesses and natural persons went up by LTL 785.5 million and LTL 216.4 million (9.9% and 9.4%), respectively.

In the course of 2003 broad money M2 increased by LTL 2.7 billion (18.2%), of which currency in circulation went up by LTL 875.7 million (23.3%), demand deposits in litas grew by LTL 1.3 billion (29.1%), time and savings deposits by LTL 683.0 million (23.6%), and foreign currency deposits shrank by LTL 186.8 million (5.2%). Net foreign assets decreased over the year by LTL 314.3 million (4.5%). Domestic credit increased by LTL 3.9 billion (42.4%) in 2003, of which net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds went down by LTL 751.3 million, i.e. 1.4 times, claims on the private sector increased by LTL 4.2 billion (58.8%) and claims on non-banking financial institutions went up by LTL 377.5 million (38.5%).
