At the end of August 2002 broad money M2 made up LTL 13.6 billion.Over one month it increased by LTL 103.4 million, of which currency in circulation, demand deposits and savings and time deposits went up by LTL 39.9, 50.1 and 78.7 million, respectively, while foreign currency deposits shrank by LTL 65.3 million.

Net foreign assets decreased in August by LTL 213.3 million, of which foreign assets and foreign liabilities declined by LTL 284.9 million and LTL 71.6 million, respectively.The decline of net foreign assets was determined by central government operations in foreign exchange at the Bank of Lithuania and increased commercial bank investment in Government securities in foreign currencies.

Domestic credit increased by LTL 308.6 million, of which net claims on the central government and social security funds went up by LTL 61.7 million, while claims on the private sector increased by LTL 219.6 million.The growth of claims on the private sector was determined by the increase of commercial bank long-term loans to private companies and physical persons by LTL 134.5 million and LTL 77.1 million, respectively.
