At the end of January 2004 broad money M2 made up LTL 17.3 billion. In the course of one month it decreased by LTL 251.0 million (1.4%), showing the year-on-year increase of LTL 2.8 billion (19.7%).
Currency in circulation declined by LTL 64.7 million (1.4%) in January, demand deposits in litas went down by LTL 216.0 million (3.7%), of which deposits of non-financial private companies and natural persons decreased respectively by LTL 199.8 million and LTL 155.1 million (8.4% and 5.3 %), and demand deposits of local government institutions and non-banking financial institutions increased by LTL 118.1million and LTL 18.4 million (86.8% and 19.8%), respectively.
Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 32.2 million (0.9%), of which deposits of natural persons and non-banking financial institutions increased by LTL 99.0 million and LTL 33.6 million (3.6% and 34.8%), respectively, and such deposits non-financial public companies and non-financial private companies decreased respectively by LTL 64.7 million and LTL 45.1million (47.2% and 8.6%). Deposits in foreign currencies decreased by LTL 2.5 million (0.1%), of which deposits of natural persons went down by LTL 23.8 million (1.1%) and deposits of non-financial public companies increased by LTL 15.1 million (21.4%).
Net foreign assets decreased in January by LTL 242.4 million (3.6%), of which foreign assets and foreign liabilities went up by LTL 185.4 million and LTL 427.8 million (1.5% and 8.0%), respectively.
Domestic credit increased by LTL 124.4 million (0.9%), of which net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds declined by LTL 249.1 million (a factor of 2.2). Claims on the private sector and non-banking financial institutions increased by LTL 376.6 million and LTL 25.6 million (3.3% and 1.9%), respectively, while claims on local government authorities and non-financial public companies declined respectively by LTL 12.0 million and LTL 16.7 million (3.0% and 11.3%).
