At the end of July 2003 broad money M2 made up LTL 16.0 billion.In the course of one month it increased by LTL 386.9 million, i.e. 2.5 per cent, while the annual increase amounted to LTL 2.4 billion, i.e. 18.0 per cent.
Currency in circulation grew by LTL 45.1 million in July, while demand deposits in litas went up by LTL 248.7 million, of which deposits of local government institutions, non-financial public companies, non-financial private companies and natural persons increased by LTL 55.8 million, LTL 28.2 million, LTL 112.9 million and LTL 51.5 million, respectively.
Litas time and savings deposits increased by LTL 24.8 million, of which deposits of natural persons increased by LTL 46.0 million and deposits of non-bank financial institutions decreased by LTL 13.4 million. Foreign currency deposits increased by LTL 68.3 million, of which deposits of non-financial public institutions and natural persons increased by LTL 25.6 million and LTL 43.0 million, respectively.
Net foreign assets decreased in July by LTL 567.5 million, of which foreign assets went down by LTL 50.9 million and foreign liabilities went up by LTL 516.6 million.
Domestic credit expanded by LTL 892.8 million, of which net claims on the central government and mandatory social and health insurance funds and claims on the private sector went up by LTL 98.2 million and LTL 779.5 million, respectively.
The increase of claims on the private sector and foreign liabilities was determined by the fact that commercial banks refinanced the loans to the joint-stock company Mazeikiu Nafta granted by foreign companies.
