From 23 April, the Bank of Lithuania cash offices in Vilnius and Kaunas are open again. Currently, the most important services will be provided three days a week and all appointments will have to be registered by phone ahead of time. Such a decision was made by the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.

As of 23 April, the Bank of Lithuania cash offices in Vilnius and Kaunas will provide the following services:

  • exchange of litas into euro (banknotes only);
  • exchange of worn and damaged euro (banknotes only);
  • expert examination of euro and litas;
  • exchange of euro coins.

When exchanging euro coins, the following conditions will temporarily apply:

  • the amount of coins will not be limited to a one-litre container as previously;
  • the exchanged amount will be transferred to a customer’s account within 10 business days (previously, euro coins were exchanged in cash immediately);
  • natural and legal persons wishing to exchange coins will have to submit a written request which can be filled out upon arriving at the cash office or ahead of time.

“During this period from 16 March, while the cash offices were closed, our customers have collected large amounts of coins. Therefore, we decided not to limit the amount of coins to be exchanged until the end of the quarantine and for one additional month thereafter. Taking the necessary measures to put the health of the Bank of Lithuania staff members and our customers first, as well as aiming to make service time as short as possible, we will count the coins at the coin handling premises rather than the cash offices and later transfer the needed amounts to the accounts indicated by residents or companies,” said Deivis Stankevičius, Director of the Cash Department of the Bank of Lithuania.

Services at the Bank of Lithuania cash offices will be provided in line with security and hygiene requirements. Residents, especially those at higher risk, are kindly asked to assess the urgency and necessity for such services prior to registration.

Services are provided at the Bank of Lithuania cash offices free of charge. Please register for an appointment ahead of time by calling this number: +370 5 268 0906 (during working hours).

The Bank of Lithuania cash offices were closed since the quarantine was enforced in the Republic of Lithuania on 16 March.
