In September 2007, as a result of transactions, external assets of the Bank of Lithuania decreased by LTL 579.3 million to form LTL 16.0 billion at the end of the month, while external liabilities went down by LTL 259.9 million to LTL 1.3 billion. The major reason behind the decrease was the contraction of non-resident deposits with the Bank of Lithuania of LTL 259.9 million, as a result of transactions, after the Bank of Lithuania paid back the funds it had borrowed under repurchase agreements.
In September, currency in circulation increased by LTL 70.5 million to LTL 8.9 billion at the end of the month. Meanwhile, resident deposits with the Bank of Lithuania contracted as a result of transactions by LTL 451.6 million, to form LTL 4.9 billion at the end of the month. Deposits of other MFIs went down by LTL 563.5 million, as a result of transactions, to make up LTL 2.4 billion at the end of the month, while central government deposits increased as a result of transactions by LTL 113.0 million to LTL 2.6 billion at the end of September.
