In March 2007, external assets of the Bank of Lithuania went down by LTL 689.7 million as a result of transactions to form LTL 14.5 billion at the end of the month.
In March, currency in circulation increased by LTL 272.6 million to LTL 8.1 billion at the end of the month. As a result of transactions, residential deposits with the Bank of Lithuania contracted by LTL 771.8 million over the month to form LTL 5.5 billion at the end of the month. Deposits of the central government dropped by LTL 994.1 million as a result of transactions to form LTL 3.0 billion at the end of March. The government’s decision to restore the depreciated rouble deposits of the country residents was the major reason for the contraction. As a result of transactions, deposits of other MFIs went up by LTL 223.9 million to equal to LTL 2.5 billion at the end of the month.
Since deposits of non-resident MFIs (banks) with the Bank of Lithuania as a result of transactions decreased by LTL 200.8 million and deposits of non-MFIs (non-banks) declined by LTL 35.0 million in March, external liabilities of the Bank of Lithuania went down by LTL 235.8 million to equal LTL 58.8 million at the end of the month.
