Today, Lietuvos bankas published the balance of payments for February 2026, which shows that:

in February, compared to January, the surplus on the current account balance (CAB) increased from €185.6 million to €395.5 million. The above development was mainly driven by an increase in the surplus on the balance of services which was not outweighed by a significant widening of the foreign trade deficit (see Chart 1). As exports of services increased (by 15.5%) and imports declined slightly (by 0.5%), the surplus on the services balance rose (by 40.4%) to €904.8 million. With the decline in exports (by 1,3 %) and the increase in imports (by 3.9%) of goods, the foreign trade deficit went up (by 46.3 %), amounting to €511.0 million. The deficit on the primary income balance decreased (by 26.4%) to €88.6 million. The surplus on the secondary income balance increased from €10.9 million to €90.4 million;

the negative net flow of financial account investment (€49.5 million) was driven by the negative net flow of other investment (€797.4 million) and a decrease in official reserve assets (€119.1 million). The impact of these negative flows was mitigated by positive net flow of portfolio investment (€667.4 million) and direct investment (€197.7 million) (see Chart 2).
