Today, Lietuvos bankas published the balance of payments for August 2025, which shows that:

the current account balance (CAB) turned from deficit (€120.9 million) to surplus, compared to July, and amounted to €522.2 million. This significant development was mainly driven by a large decrease in foreign trade deficit and an increase in the surplus on the balance of services (see Chart 1). Following a rise in exports of goods (2.6%) and a considerable drop in imports (14.9%), the foreign trade deficit significantly went down by a factor of 3.6 and totalled €246.3 million. With the growth in exports and imports of services (by 7.4% and 8.5% respectively), the surplus of the balance of services went up by 6.1% and amounted to €918.9 million. The primary income deficit grew from €190.3 million to €290.8 million. The surplus secondary income balance increased by a factor of 1.5 and amounted to €140.3 million;

the positive net flow of financial account investment (€228.6 million) was mainly driven by the positive net flow of portfolio investment (€1.3 billion), which offset the negative net flows of other investment (€948.4 million) and direct investment (€252.6 million) (see Chart 2).
