The Board of the Bank of Lithuania decided to announce the 100 litas commemorative coin dedicated to mark the millennium anniversary of the mention of the name of Lithuania as legal tender and issue it into circulation on 26 Sepember 2007.
The graphic design of the coin was created by artist Liudas Parulskis and the plaster model was made by Giedrius Paulauskis. Coins have been struck by the Lithuanian Mint.
This is the first gold coin to mark the millennium anniversary of the mention of the name of Lithuania. The other two coins of this series will be issued in 2008 and 2009.
