According to the Bank of Lithuania, at the end of the first quarter, ten management companies managed LTL 569.91 million of CIUs assets, an increase of 11.23 per cent from the figure three months ago. The number of CIUs declined by 1.4 per cent and stood at 20.687.

The first quarter of this year was a success for CIUs registered in Lithuania – an overall weighted increase of 9.2 per cent was recorded in the unit value of all CIUs.      The unit values of stock CIUs rose by 12.5 per cent, of mixed investment CIUs by 8.0 per cent, of bond CIUs by 6.0 per cent, and of money market CIUs by 0.7 per cent.  

In the first quarter of the year, the values of units of most CIUs distributed to non-professional investors recorded an increase. In the first quarter of the year, a decline was recorded in the unit values of two CIUs only (from 0.1 % and 3.8 %), whereas the unit values of the other 22 funds increased (from 0.7 % to 18.6 %).  

The number of CIUs constantly increased in 2004 to 2008. However, it has now been declining for an eighth consecutive quarter. Investment funds whose participants can also be retail investors vary highly in the number of participants. The number of participants in as many as 22 out of the 36 funds under review stood below 100, with 5 funds only recording the number of participants above 1000.
