Bank of Lithuania
2005-10-14

Over one month reserve money went up by LTL 202.1 million, of which commercial bank balances on correspondent accounts and currency in circulation increased by LTL 800.2 million and LTL 79.7 million, respectively, and required reserves in foreign currencies declined by LTL 682.4 million.

Reserve money was increased by the net purchase of foreign exchange by the Bank of Lithuania from commercial banks of LTL 1.1 billion, while the operations of central government institutions and operations of non-residents pushed it down by LTL 124 million and LTL 31.3 million, respectively. Reserve money was also reduced by the fact that required reserves of commercial banks in foreign currencies comprising LTL 682.4 million no longer exist after the entry into force of the Resolution of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania on Approving the Rules on Reserve Requirements for Credit Institutions from 26 September 2005.

Foreign assets and central government deposits grew by LTL 383.9 million and LTL 229.8 million, respectively, in September.
