At the end of December 2003 reserve money made up LTL 6.5 billion. Over one month it went up by LTL 624.3 million, of which currency in circulation and commercial bank balances on correspondent accounts increased respectively by LTL 327.9 million and LTL 322.5 million, while demand deposits of non-banking financial institutions and required reserves in foreign currencies decreased by LTL 18.8 million and LTL 9.4 million, respectively. Foreign assets and central government deposits went up by LTL 582.7 million and LTL 41.5 million, respectively.
Foreign assets went up by LTL 403.0 million owing to operations with central government institutions and net purchase of foreign exchange by the Bank of Lithuania of LTL 296.9 million. Foreign assets were pushed down by LTL 108.3 million owing to repurchase transactions with non-residents and by LTL 16.0 million due to the sale of foreign exchange to other residents than the central government or commercial banks.
Over 2003 reserve money went up by LTL 1.4 billion, of which currency in circulation, commercial bank balances on correspondent accounts and required reserves in foreign currencies increased respectively by LTL 914.3 million, LTL 400.3 million and LTL 58.7 million. Reserve money was pushed up by LTL 541.2 million owing to operations with central government institutions and net purchase of foreign exchange by the Bank of Lithuania of LTL 699.7 million.
