At the end of May 2002 reserve money made up LTL 4,062.0 million.Over one month it went down by LTL 78.6 million, of which currency outside the central bank increased by LTL 75.3 million.An LTL 122.2 million decline in reserve money was determined by changes in commercial bank required reserves, operations with the central government pushed it down by LTL 41.3 million, while an LTL 85.1 million increase resulted from anchor currency exchange operations with commercial banks.
Foreign assets and foreign liabilities increased by LTL 1,060.2 million and LTL 6.0 million, respectively.Central government deposits in foreign currencies went up by LTL 1,157.1 million, and declined in litas by LTL 15.7 million.The main reason behind the increase of foreign assets and central government deposits in foreign currencies was the inflows from EUR 400 million ten-year Eurobond placement into central government accounts at the Bank of Lithuania in May.
