On 30 November 2020, 16:00 (EET) / 15:00 (CET) the Bank of Lithuania and ROCKIT will hold a virtual event “Upgrading Money to the Digital Age: Introducing Digital Euro”.

Marius Jurgilas, Member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, Carl Andreas Claussen, representative of the Riksbank, and Austėja Šostakaitė, Expert at the ECB, will discuss various issues related to a digital euro, its safety and attractiveness, the role commercial banks and payment institutions would play, as well as related practical experiments (e.g. the Bank of Lithuania’s LBChain blockchain sandbox, the world’s first digital collector coin LBCOIN) and their potential to contribute to its development.

“Virtual assets, which until recently were left out on the fringes of the financial system, will soon become one of its supervised integral parts. Looking ahead, we have already started high-level discussions on central bank digital currency (CBDC). Devoting particular attention to practical innovation, the Bank of Lithuania is ready to share its know-how and hear public opinion on the new type of money,” said Marius Jurgilas, Member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania.

Please also feel free to take part in the ECB’s consultation on a digital euro and fill out its questionnaire.
