The obverse of the coin features Vytis, surrounded by the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA), denomination (1 litas), and the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin features an image of an artist-Muse, symbolising Europe’s cultural roots – Classical Culture – painting on an easel in the shape of Gediminas Castle – the symbol of Vilnius. In a circle is the inscription VILNIUS – EUROPOS KULTŪROS SOSTINĖ (VILNIUS – EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE) and the year of issue (2009).
