Obverse

The obverse of the coin features Vytis, surrounded by the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA), denomination (50 litas), year of issue (2001), and the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint. At the bottom are fragments of newspapers and documents from the end of 19th c.–early 20th c., closely related to the activities of Jonas Basanavičius.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin features a portrait of Jonas Basanavičius, a facsimile of his signature and the year 1851–1927.
