The obverse of the coin features Vytis against a damascened background, surrounded by the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA), denomination (50 litas), and the year of issue (1998).

Reverse

The reverse of the coin features a portrait of Algirdas, Grand Duke of Lithuania. The portrait is based on a medal by the sculptor Vytautas Kašuba and is surrounded by the inscriptions ALGIRDAS DIDYSIS LIETUVOS KUNIGAIKŠTIS (ALGIRDAS, GRAND DUKE OF LITHUANIA) and 1345–1377.
