The obverse of the coin features Vytis inside a shield with ribbons to each side, surrounded by the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA), denomination (50 litas), and the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin features an image of the sculpture ‘Pieta’ by Stanislovas Kuzma, a memorial to the defenders of Lithuania's freedom. The image is surrounded by the inscription 1991 • SAUSIO • TRYLIKTOJI (13TH OF JANUARY 1991) and the year of issue (1996).
