Obverse

The obverse of the coin depicts the history of the city through artistic means: the centre features the Gediminas’ Tower, around which the life of the city revolves, with the images of the city’s buildings portrayed in a kaleidoscopic way and the year of the founding of the city (1323) incorporated in the image. The composition represents a bird’s eye view. Below there is the inscription LIETUVA (LITHUANIA), the denomination (€10), the year of issue (2023) and the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin depicts the legend of the founding of Vilnius through artistic means. According to the legend, Gediminas, the Grand Duke of Lithuania, following a hunting trip, dreamt of an iron wolf, whose loud cry moved the waters of the Neris River. A sage named Lizdeika explained to Gediminas that a city would be built here, and its name would be heard all around the world. The composition is surrounded by the inscription “VILNIUS”, “700” and the initials of the author.
