Obverse
The obverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the Grand Dutchy of Lithuania, the Vytis, on the background of the ensemble of buildings of Vilnius University, the reformed Supreme School of the Grand Dutchy of Lithuania (engraving from 1780s), the inscription “Lietuva” (Lithuania), the denomination (€10), the year of issue (2023) and the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint.
Reverse
The reverse of the coin bears the image of the seal of the Educational Commission of the Commonwealth of the Two Nations with the Latin inscription “Collegium Praefectorum Publicae Institutioni” (College of Directors of Public Education) and a symbolic book with the cover of a primary school textbook, reprinted in 1783 by the printing house of Vilnius University, which was reformed by the Educational Commission. The reverse also bears the quotation from the Educational Commission’s first circular in Lithuanian: “…jaunų žmonių lavinimas ir švietimas – vienintelė tvarios valstybių laimės sąlyga” (…the exercise and education of the young is the only condition for states’ constant happiness). The composition is surrounded by the inscription “Abiejų Tautų Respublikos Edukacinė komisija” (Educational Commission of the Commonwealth of the Two Nations), “250”.
