Obverse

The obverse of the coin features a fragment of a miniature copy of one of the most famous paintings by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, REX. It is as though the artist’s work is immortalised in gold. The fragment is framed by the inscription “Lietuva” (Lithuania), the denomination (€50), the year of issue (2025), as well as the mintmark of the Lithuanian Mint and the initials of the designer.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin alludes to the coin’s authorship, namely, to Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis himself: a facsimile of the artist’s signature is shown above the horizon while the inscription “150” appears below it.

Coin description

Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis was an extraordinary figure who combined music and art into an inimitable creative whole. Full of philosophical depth and spirituality, his works remain the foundation of our state’s cultural identity and are a source of inspiration for future generations. His genius testifies to the fact that creativity can serve as a bridge between our internal lives and the infinity of the universe.

Rex depicts the universe unveiling its beauty before our eyes. The flaming altar, high mountain peaks, and the light of stars and comets merge into an infinite cosmic vision. The contrast between darkness and light reminds us that our lives are in a constant state of equilibrium. Rex invites us to take a deeper look at the order of the world and at ourselves.
