The task of the Commission for the Coordination of the Adoption of the Euro in the Republic of Lithuania (Commission) is to ensure preparation and proper implementation of the National Changeover Plan.

The Commission was formed in accordance with the Government Resolution No. 592 of 30 May 2005. The Commission is chaired by the Prime Minister, and the Deputy Chairpersons of the Commission are the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania and the Minister of Finance. The members of the Commission are the Minister of Social Security and Labour, the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Agriculture, and the Director General of the Department of Statistics under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania.

Meetings of the Commission are held semi-annually. Less than one year prior to the expected euro adoption date established by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania the Commission shall meet at least every three months.

The Commission will be dissolved half a year after the euro is adopted in the Republic of Lithuania.

Seven working groups have been set up to deal with specific issues and submit conclusions to the Commission:

  • Coordinating Working Group (Chairman – Secretary of the Ministry of Finance);
  • Public Information Working Group (Chairman – Head of Public Relations division of the Bank of Lithuania);
  • Cash Working Group (Chairman – Member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania);
  • Business Environment Working Group (Chairman – Secretary of the Ministry of Economy);
  • Protection of Consumer Rights and Social Affairs Working Group (Chairman – State Secretary of the Ministry of Social Security and Labour);
  • Legal Issues Working Group (Chairman – Secretary of the Ministry of justice);
  • Information Technology Working Group (Chairman – Chairman of the Development of Information Society under the Government of the Republic of Lithuania).

Meetings of the Coordinating Working Group are held at least semi-annually and meetings of other working groups are organised once a year. Less than one year prior to the expected euro adoption date established by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, meetings of all working groups are held at least every three months.
